Transportation

  • Transportation is an important enabler for the circular economy, facilitating the movement of products, materials, and resources within the circular supply chain. Efficient transportation systems are essential for orchestrating the collection, redistribution, and processing of these materials, allowing them to re-enter the production cycle and significantly reduce the reliance on new resource extraction and other environmental impacts.
  • Circular transportation is defined as sustainable and efficient movement of goods and materials using strategies that align with the circular economy.
  • To facilitate circular transportation, a significant reduction on the reliance of fossil fuels and transition to low- or zero-emission sources is required.
  • The actions and processes that help facilitate circular transportation include route optimization, load planning, load collaboration, packaging optimization, sustainable vehicle and fuel use and maintenance, as well as reverse logistics and backhauling.
